I went in with a simple question about my road bike that I just recently started riding in preparation of the MS 150 and received the most condescending and demeaning answers possible. It seemed that bringing my bike in for service and spending money at their shop was a complete waist of their time. Don't worry I won't be coming back for service and I actually was going to follow up about a mountain bike purchase I was going to make, but don't worry I bought my Tallboy Santa Cruz from Sub Culture Cyclery who was able to build and deliver my bike within 1 week.
This has been my bike shop for a few years now. I've probably been in about 15 times, including a new bike purchase. Jeff and James know bikes and care about helping their customers. If you live in Green Mountain this should be your bike shop too!
I've been to GMS a couple times for service on my fat bike. The service has always been great and the pricing is very reasonable. One particular time I went in with a specific request to replace bearings on the bottom bracket....the mechanics checked out the bike while I waited and suggested that we defer the bearing maintenance until they could be certain bearings were actually in need of replacement. I've never had a bike shop give a free quick assessment of the condition and not find something wrong they could work on and charge for. These folks are honest and trustworthy and we are lucky to have them in the hood.
Very solid shop. They know their stuff and have always shared good advice and offered good service. They don't try and gouge you and they do little things for free which is great customer service. Today I dropped in and they seated a tubeless tire on my wheel for free (needed a compressor), knowing I'd go home and set up the sealant myself. Granted, I bought a few things too. The shop closer to me in Fox Point refused to do this little thing and, although walking distance to them, I doubt I will go back. GMS is a great shop in my experience.
I can't describe the professionalism of these guys. It exceeds anything I have experienced. Thanks to Jeff for getting me set up and taking the time to help me understand what and why things needed to be done
