I am at loss as to how this place can have over 200 reviews and average to 4 stars. We spent $27 for to meals - only water to drink. The atmosphere is circa 1970 cheesy diner + checkered table clothes. Somewhat unkempt.
Ive been in search of a wonderful Italian hideout that didn't cost an arm and a leg...this place is the real deal old school real Italian vibe
Overall there was nothing enjoyable about the meal. I definitely would have liked a jar of Rao's, a bag of Organic Montebello Spaghetti and some Polidori sausage at home. (total $20). Sure, for the extra $7 someone else cooked and did the dishes, but I had to drive there & back and didn't actually eat the meal. Not recommended.
The first meal I ate at Dino's was in the mid 70's. Here I am having lunch 40 years later and to my pleasant surprise it's just like it was back then. In the day and age of hit or miss restaurant dining Dino's remains the same and that is good for all of us. Highly recommend giving it a try if you enjoy homemade Italian food.
But the red sauce...the heart of any Italian restaurant...horrible. It tastes like canned tomato paste. Nothing wrong with starting a sauce with paste, but it requires hours of cooking and a balance of spices and fats. Dino's sauce still tastes like the can. That said, it tasted better than the vegetarian version, which was more bland and unbalanced.
Been going to Dino's for years always good food a great service
We started off with bread...shaped like Italian, but texture and taste were more like 2-day old white bread. Next was the salad. Lettuce was fresh, with shredded carrots, correct amount of dressing, but the dressing was akin to that orange-colored fat-free Italian seen at the grocer. Tangy with an odd thickened texture.
I had the homemade noodles with red sauce & sausage. The other half had noodles & vegetarian red sauce. The noodles were dense, not in an al dente kind of way. They tasted a bit off, maybe like they made them with a strong EVOO? The homemade sausage's spice balance was way off. Too much caraway I think. Decent heat level though- a nice mid-level between mild & hot.
My first time stepping through the door was a waste of time. They weren't busy and all the staff was hanging out talking while me and other customers waited to be seated. Nobody even bothered to greet us. I stood there for several minutes and then loudly said "I guess you guys don't feel like working." They looked at me, but no one bothered to acknowledge me, so I turned around and walked out. It is pitiful to make customers wait when you aren't even busy. Six workers hanging out right there by me and not one could even be bothered to seat guests. I was going to give the place a try, but if the staff is this poor quality, I hate to risk trying the food.
